Privacy policy

Expert Witness Tools, LLC runs expertwitnesstools.com, the customer portal and the Expert Witness Tools desktop and mobile apps. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

What we collect

• Launch list: the work email you enter when you ask to hear about our launch.
• Inquiries and messages: your name, firm, email, phone number if you give it, and what you write to us through an inquiry, contact, support or feature request form.
• Account details: your name, email and organization, used to sign you in and manage your licenses. If you turn on two-factor sign-in, we store what is needed to check your codes.
• Billing records: your plan, trial dates, payment status and invoices. Card details go straight to Stripe and are never stored by us.
• License activity: the computers and devices a license is activated on, their names, and when each last checked in, so device limits and offline use work.
• Site usage: pages visited, approximate location, device and browser type, collected by Google Analytics using cookies. See our cookie policy.
• Security and download logs: sign-ins, admin changes and downloads, with the time, plus your IP address for downloads, to protect accounts and licenses.

What we do not collect

The tools process your evidence on your own computer or device. We do not receive your transcripts, footage, photos or case documents.

How we use it

• To reply to inquiries and support requests.
• To send the one launch email you asked for.
• To run your account, trials, billing, licenses and downloads.
• To send the emails you need, such as sign-up confirmations, password resets and receipts.
• To understand which pages are useful so we can improve the site.
• To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.

We do not sell your information, share it for advertising, or use it to build advertising profiles.

Services we use

• Google Analytics measures site visits. See the cookie policy for how to decline, or use Google's opt-out add-on.
• Cloudflare checks that form submissions come from a person (Turnstile) and stores software downloads (R2).
• Resend delivers our emails.
• Stripe processes payments and hosts the checkout and billing pages.
• Supabase stores account, license and form data.
• Vercel hosts the website and portal.

Each handles your information only to provide its service to us. These providers may store and process data in the United States and other countries.

How long we keep it

• Launch list: until we send the launch email, or sooner if you ask to be removed.
• Inquiries and messages: as long as needed to answer you and keep a record of the conversation.
• Account and license data: while your account is open. When you close it, we delete it within 90 days, apart from what we must keep.
• Billing records: as long as tax and accounting rules require.
• Site usage: Google Analytics keeps detailed usage data for up to 14 months.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct, export or delete the personal information we hold about you, and to stop us using it for analytics. Depending on where you live, such as the UK, the EU or California, the law may give you further rights, and you can complain to your local data protection authority. Email sean@ewttools.com and we will answer within 30 days.

To leave the launch list, reply to our email and ask. You can update your profile from the portal at any time.

Security

All traffic is encrypted, each account's data is kept separate in the database, and downloads use short-lived links issued only after your license is checked. No system is perfectly secure, so we will tell you promptly if a breach affects your information.

Children

Expert Witness Tools is for professionals. It is not meant for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information you have already given us, we will email account holders before it takes effect.
