Terms of service
The terms for using Expert Witness Tools, in plain language.
Updated Oct 18, 2026
These terms cover your use of expertwitnesstools.com, the customer portal, and the Expert Witness Tools software (the tools and the Expert Witness Tools app). By creating an account, starting a trial or buying a plan, you agree to them.
Your account
- Give accurate details and keep them up to date.
- Keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens under your account, so tell us right away if you think someone else has used it.
- An account is for one person. Firms can add team members from the portal.
Free trials
Each product starts with a 14-day free trial, with no card needed. You get one trial per product per account. If you add a card before the trial ends, your plan continues and billing starts when the trial ends. If you don't, the plan ends and nothing is charged.
Plans and billing
- Plans are billed monthly or yearly, in advance, through Stripe, and renew automatically until you cancel.
- Prices are shown in US dollars and do not include any taxes that may apply.
- You can cancel any time from the billing page in your portal. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
- If a payment fails, Stripe tries again over the following days. While it is unpaid, downloads and licenses are paused. Nothing is deleted, and access returns once the payment goes through.
- If we change the price of your plan, we will tell you before the change applies to your next renewal.
Your license
- A plan gives you a license to install and use the included tools for your own professional work, on the number of computers or devices listed for that plan.
- The Expert Witness Tools app keeps your licenses active. A tool works offline for up to 14 days between check-ins.
- You can move a license to a new computer by removing the old one on the Licenses page of your portal.
- When a plan ends, the tools it covers stop working at their next check.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- share, resell or rent your license, or use it beyond the computers your plan allows;
- get around, disable or tamper with the license check;
- copy, modify, reverse engineer or decompile the tools, except where the law allows it;
- use the service to break the law or to interfere with the website or other customers.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules.
Your work
Your evidence and work product stay yours. The tools process them on your own computer or device, and we do not receive them. The tools help you organize and cite material; your analysis, opinions and testimony remain your professional responsibility. Nothing in the tools, the website or our support is legal advice.
Updates and availability
Tools covered by an active plan receive updates through the Expert Witness Tools app. We work to keep the website, portal and downloads available, but there may be interruptions for maintenance or reasons outside our control.
Disclaimer and limits
The tools and the service are provided as they are. We do not promise they will be error-free or meet every need, so check important results before relying on them. To the extent the law allows, Expert Witness Tools, LLC is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits or lost data, and our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before it.
Closing your account
You can close your account at any time by emailing us. We may end these terms if you seriously or repeatedly break them. When an account closes, licenses stop and we handle your data as described in our privacy policy.
Changes
If we change these terms, we will update the date at the top and email account holders about important changes before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms.
